I’m an experienced developmental editor and prose reader. I’ve worked in editorial for Wendy Lamb Books/Random House, ICM Partners, taught in the BFA and MFA programs at UBC’s School of Creative Writing, and been Writer-in-Residence at the University of Manitoba, the Vancouver Public Library, the Richmond Public Library, and others. I currently teach creative writing workshops at the University of Winnipeg.

Each manuscript consultation receives a very detailed (and candid) 2-12 page editorial letter from me, highlighting strengths and weaknesses in your prose, in addition to concrete suggestions on how to remedy these fixes. I may comment on plot, character, voice, inconsistencies, etc. Note that the letter may be on the shorter side if you submit a 1-2 page story, for instance. The developmental edit does not include line-editing or copyediting.

My genres include memoir/personal essays, young adult literature, speculative and contemporary adult fiction.

A 50% e-transfer is expected before services are rendered and the rest can be paid after you receive my letter. Sadly, many folks do not like to pay for editorial feedback.

CURRENT RATES:

$450 for 5000 words (double spaced, size font 12, Times New Roman). Each additional page (500 words) is $3.00.

$1600 for a 60,000 word manuscript. Each additional page (500 words) is $3.00.

Query letters: $80 (flat fee) with detailed comments.

Meeting on Zoom to brainstorm/discuss any aspect of writing/publishing: $150/hour.
